At Business Development Company, we incorporate sustainability in what we do every day – from using recycled paper to campaigning for recycling services for businesses in the Nelson CBD. We believe that everyone can make a difference to the environment in which we live and work in – leading to a reduced global impact overall.

Simple, everyday actions such as buying coffee from fair-trade providers, and products and services from locals, reducing waste, recycling and operating responsibly all make a difference. The Earth is precious and we want to help look after it. Join us and think ‘sustainability’ in all that you do.

Nelson Bays Community Foundation

Launched in 2010, the Nelson Bays Community Foundation is part of a network of community foundations throughout New Zealand with the aim of supporting and providing enduring benefit for their local communities. Funds received from donations, grants and legacies are invested and the earnings are distributed to charitable organisations in the Nelson Tasman community.

As part of the Foundation Club, BDC contributes funding to assist with the administration costs and running of the Nelson Bays Community Foundation. Julie serves as the Chair on the local Foundation.

Adult Learning Support

Adult Learning Support is a not for profit organisation with expertise in helping adults find the confidence and skills to read and do maths. Their programmes are a mixture of one to one, small group and computer based tuition.

How we help

We promote the services of ALS within the business community and inform employers on the ways that improved literacy provide benefits to employees and employers through improved productivity.

Brook Waimarama Sanctuary

The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary is a community-based initiative, working to create a pest-free wildlife sanctuary close to Nelson’s city centre. The pest-proof fence is 14km long and programmes have begun to eradicate all the pest mammals within it. The $4.75m project is supported by the community.
